The other day I looked around my bathroom and I realised that I have an overrun of beauty samples, toothpaste samples, almost empty beauty products, random products I have no idea where they came from or why they are in the bathroom. I also realised that I had products that after reading many articles I have found contain toxic ingredients.
Sounds familiar?
Firstly, babe, I think this is a very common let's put this off to any other time than now chore. So you aren't alone.
We want to inspire you to make another time, right now.
It won't take long with the following
1. An excess number of samples and gifts you have never opened
Be Practical > If you haven't used an unopened product within the last 6 months and it is still within the expiry date, collect the items and put them in a bag to donate to your local your nearest women's shelter. Small donations for beauty and feminine products will go a long way to help your local community. If you haven't used the product in 6 months, your most likely not going to use it anytime soon. If they are out of expiry do what you can to recycle the packaging and be mindful where the contents of the products go.
Be Mindful > We can find many toxins in our bathroom. It is time to read what your products are made up of. Being mindful of the brands you buy and what is currently in your bathroom that might be harmful to your health long term.
2. Common products that have these toxic ingredients; Avoid of throw out where appropriate
> Diethyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde (found in nail polish)
> Sulfates (found in shampoo)
> Oxybenzone (Found in sunscreen)
> Parabens Butylparaben, Methylparaben, Propylparaben (Found in makeup, moisturizer, shaving gel, shampoo, personal lubricant and spray tan products)
> Fragrances (Found in moisturizers, deodorant, lotion, face cream, shampoo, conditioner)
3. Conscious Purchasing;
Consider switching to Organic & Natural products;
> 100% Organic Cotton Tampons
> Natural Toothpastes
> Unbleached Toilet Paper
> Natural and Safe Air fresheners
> Natural Cleaning products
> Fragrance-Free Products
4. When in doubt, throw it out.
Let Go > Like Elsa says, Let it go, Let it go!
It is time to say goodbye to all the things sucking the energy in the room that isn't working towards your brightening your beautiful soul. Once you have decluttered and detoxed your bathroom, light some sage and clear your new space with good vibes. Start every day with a fresh and calming space to prepare for the day.
Your bathroom should be a space where you feel calm and relaxed. A place to wash, heal and reflect. If you are a mother it might be the only place you can hide from your kids.
5. Do a happy dance because you rock!
If you feel overwhelmed do it in 10-15min blocks. When you find joy in the simple things, life becomes magic.
This weekend I detoxed my bathroom and my goodness it feels so light and amazing in there now! I also cannot believe everything is organised, I had to call Jacqueline to show her because she didn't believe me. If I can do it, so can you!
